I can't edit certain areas of a template

What are components and how do I use them?

Components are elements that can be added in throughout your email, like a button. If components are available for your template, you will see a left sidebar while in edit mode with thumbnails of the ones available under 'Components'. You can drag a component into a text area you are currently making changes to. You will see a blue line where your component can be dropped in.

What are sections and how do I use them?

Sections allow you to change the layout of your email. If sections are available for your template, you will see a left sidebar while in edit mode thumbnails of the ones available under 'Sections'. You can add a section in-between other sections by dragging them in. You will see a blue line where your component can be dropped in.

What are layouts and how do I use them?

Layouts are different kinds of email formats you can save and reuse. For example, you may have a certain layout for your newsletters and another one for announcements. Your layouts can be saved by clicking the 'Save Layout' button at the bottom of the left sidebar when you are in edit mode. When creating a new email, any saved layouts will be shown as options to start the email with.

Once I've uploaded an image, how can I change the way it's being cropped?

You will need to upload the original image again and you will be given the option to crop it. Cropping is based on the proportions of the original template image.

What is 'alternate text'?

Images have an option to display text in case the image does not load. It also acts as a description when someone mouses over the image.

How do I add a new template?

Click ‘Import Template’ at the top.

Can I preview how my imported template works without creating an email for it?

Yes. After importing your template, you can click on its title on the dashboard to go into Preview Mode where you will be able to test out the editable capabilities. Any changes you make to content here will not be saved.

Can I import an updated version of a template?

Yes. Go into Preview Mode by clicking the title of the template you want to update on the dashboard. Then click on 'Import new version' on the top bar. Any new email created will use the updated version while previous emails will still be editable using the previous versions they were created in.

How do I delete a template?

Click on the ‘x’ icon on the upper right corner of the template you want to delete on the dashboard.

Click on the icon with the two documents on the right side of the email you want to duplicate on the dashboard.

How do I send a test email?

Click the icon with the up arrow on the right side of the email you want to send on the dashboard. On an email view, click 'Share & Export' in the upper right. You will be given an option to send a test email.

How do I download an email?

Click the icon with the up arrow on the right side of the email you want to download on the dashboard. On an email view, click 'Share & Export' in the upper right. You will be given options for either downloading or a copying the email code.

How do I export and send with my email provider?

Click the icon with the up arrow on the right side of the email you want to export on the dashboard. On an email view, click 'Share & Export' in the upper right. You will be given options for either downloading or a copying the email code. In your email service provider, find the import/HTML option to either import your HTML file or paste the HTML code.

Why can't I edit a template?

Your template editing options may be inactive. Reach out to the admin or owner of the template to find out the reason.

How do I add an editor?

From the Dashboard, click on 'Invite/remove editors' under the template you want to add someone to. On the Editors dashboard, enter the Name and email of the person you want to bring on and they will receive an email invite.

How do I resend an invite email?

On the Editors dashboard, click ‘Remove’ and add that user back in by using the invite fields at the top.

How do I remove an editor?

On the Editors dashboard, click ‘Remove’ next to the user you would like to remove from the template.

How do I share an email with someone to preview?

From the Dashboard, click the icon with the up arrow. On an email view, click ‘Share & Export’ in the upper right. You will be given options for either sending a test email or a copying a preview link.

How do I log in?

You can log in by going to blocksedit.com and clicking on ‘Sign In’ at the top. Or directly at app.blocksedit.com.

How do I activate my account?

You will receive an email with a link for activating your account. If you have not received the email, please check your Spam folder. If you are unable to find it, ask to be invited again.

How do I update my profile?

Click on your avatar in the upper right and then ‘My Profile’. On the profile screen you can edit your name, email and title as well as upload an avatar photo.

How do I change my password?

Click on your avatar in the upper right and then ‘My Profile’. Then click on the ‘Change password’ link at the bottom.

If I am an account owner, how do I give someone else owner or admin powers?

Click on your avatar in the upper right and then ‘My Account’. You will see a drop down to 'add another accounter owner' and one for 'add another admin'. You can also see current account owners and admins here.

How do I make content in my template editable?

Refer to the Developer API for how to tag your template's code with editing features. You can also watch a video walkthrough of template examples and how they were coded to work in Blocks Edit.

How do I get content pieces added to the sidebar?

The content pieces on the sidebar are referred to as sections and components. To get them to show in the editor sidebar, you just need to add the 'block-section' or 'block-components' CSS class to your template's HTML code.

What's the difference between sections, regions and components?

Sections are horizontal, stackable pieces that make up the full width of a template. Regions are parts within a specific section that have their own editing options. And components are standalone pieces that can be placed within any section or region.

Can I set length limits on certain text?

Yes. Either based on a minimum character count using 'block-minchar-#' or a maximum character count using 'block-maxchar-#' with a set number in place of '#'.

What options are available for images?

An image can be upload in place of a current image within a template. An option to crop the image is given with the same proportions as the original source image. This also applies for background images.

What are styles and how do I use them?

A style is an alternate version of a content piece. It's referred to as a style because each version should have the same content but with different formatting. For example, different colors for title text or different options for a button's look. To the user, styles for a piece of content are shown as numbers they can choose from.

Am I able to personalize emails for my email provider?

Yes, you can use your preferred email provider's tolkens/tags/variables (ex: *|FNAME|* in MailChimp) throughout your template content and they will be read when importing the final template into your provider to send out.
